The United States Chapter of the International Migrants Alliance (IMA), an alliance composed of more than 100 grassroots migrants' organizations in over 25 countries launched the "Campaign to Collect 1 Million Signatures for Genuine Immigration Reform and to Stop Deportations" last February 5. It was held at the Bayanihan Community Center in Queens, New York, one of the most diverse immigrant communities in the U.S, if not in the world.
La Asociación Mexicana de Estudios Internacionales (AMEI) tiene el placer de informarles sobre la apertura de la convocatoria al XXVI Congreso Anual, a celebrarse del 11 al 13 de octubre de 2012, en el Complejo Cultural Universitario de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, en la ciudad de Puebla.
El 1 de octubre de 2011 arrancó el periodo de registro para que los mexicanos que radican en cualquier parte del mundo y decidan votar en las elecciones de su país de origen en el 2012 puedan hacerlo. Esta es la segunda vez que en México se llevarán a cabo elecciones en que se podrá votar desde el extranjero. Ocurrió por primera vez en la elección del 2006 cuando se inauguró este proceso de ampliación de derechos electorales a todo mexicano más allá de su ubicación geográfica. A diferencia del 2006, la próxima elección del 2012 incluye la novedad de que por primera vez, los mexicanos oriundos de la ciudad de México (chilangos) también podrán votar para elegir al Jefe de Gobierno. Si bien en México hay otras experiencias de voto desde el exterior a nivel estatal, como el caso del estado de Michoacán donde se ejerce el voto trasnacional desde el 2006, esta es la primera vez que la ciudad de México, la Gran Tenochtitlán, participa de esta experiencia. Otros estados, como Morelos, tienen aprobado este derecho pero declararon no estar en condiciones para echarlo a andar para esta elección presidencial ya en proceso. Y en otros más, como en Chiapas, la propuesta todavía está en debate a nivel del Congreso local.

Migration Studies will publish work that significantly advances our understanding of the determinants, processes and outcomes of human migration in all its manifestations. It will present new theoretical developments, research findings, and methodological innovations.

The notion of super-diversity underlines a call to re-evaluate concepts and policies surrounding diversity by way of moving beyond an ethno-focal understanding of diversity and adopting a multi-dimensional approach. In this two day workshop, participants will explore how this notion has been operationalised in empirical research on urban areas around the world.
Motivations for, and modes of migration are diverse and often overlapping: from voluntary labor migration to family migration to forced migration due to climate change, lack of food security, war, or ethnic and religious conflict. Common to all forms of migration, though, is that the economic, social and cultural relations in both sending and destination countries are altered as a result. How does this happen, and what is the impact for both the individuals involved and society at large?
