Senior Emigration Scholar
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking candidates for a senior scholar position at the full or advanced associate professor rank beginning August 2013. This person will provide leadership in an exciting new cluster hire initiative at UIC focusing on global immigration studies. Over the next several years, the cluster will add four additional faculty members. This is part of a Chancellor’s cluster hiring initiative which includes several other clusters with different substantive foci.
We prefer an immigration scholar who studies international migration from the vantage point of outgoing emigration from home countries to global cities in the United States and is familiar with the field of international migration and transnational studies. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary and quantitatively oriented scholars who have an active social demography, cultural geography, political economy or international migration research agenda and can complement the work of scholars on campus. UIC has scholars in multiple fields involved in cutting edge research on immigration including those focusing on immigrant communities in the Chicago Metro area.
We seek candidates with an outstanding research record, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and public service. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active research and teaching program. Disciplinary home at UIC is open to a range of possibilities in the social sciences, including sociology, anthropology, or economics, and/or one of the inter-disciplinary units, such as Latin American and Latino Studies or African American Studies.
